When I started the site in 2009 I had no idea what I was doing, tho I had experience with internet marketing, as I worked for a start up company that specialized on word press CMS. WaterHeatingInfo was my very first attempt at making any website from scratch.  WordPress websites are not a normal websites, wordpress is a Content Management System, or CMS.  WordPress matches up extremely powerful with search engines, but also I learned the hard way, if your blog is successful it is also susceptible to attacks from all types of places.

WaterHeatingInfo.com was getting “indexed” (visited by search engines) over 15,000 times a day, and an average of 12,000 to 15,000 monthly unique visitors stopped by and and stayed for over a minute per visitor reading an average of 2.5 pages.   (If you don’t know internet traffic, those numbers are pretty darn good for any blog)

As the site got more and more popular it started attracting all types of trouble.  I got sued by someone for using the name mr.waterheaters (which didn’t pan out for them) and another suit from (blabla.com) for using an image they claim was their property,  (just a BS suit trying to shake me down for 7k.)  Worse than that, was about a dozen emails a week from all types of hackers trying to get access to my computer or steal my identity.  Most we’re easy to spot at first, but as time went on the hackers got more advanced.  They started offering me water heating products, the ads looked real, with links that turned out to be trouble.  After an unknown amount of attempts at hacking for over 2 years finally got me.   The site was hacked so badly it had to be taken down in the Spring of 2013 from my server hosting company, from all the trouble waterheatinginfo.com attacks had caused to the network servers.

I ASKED FOR HELP, but got none.

Though this site was a monster in the making, and anyone in the hydronic heating industry with any common sense would have been lucky to team up with waterheatinginfo.  I repeatedly asked for outside help from the water heating suppliers, distributors, product reps (too many to name.)  I contacted water heating manufacturing companies directly for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising deals.  I needed resources to get new software and pay for some IT help, but no assistance was offered from the very same people that I had been selling heating equipment for!

All I needed was a little outside help to grow our 165,000 unique visitors (of 2010) and instead I got no help, the site got attacked 3 times in the Spring of 2012 and the company hosting the site backed up the files, took the site down and gave me the bad news.  The early success I enjoyed with waterheatinginfo was over, forever.

I have all the files backed up, but they are infected with corrupt files.  Someone literally has to go through all the code line by and and delete all the junk out, or use a program to do it.   I have personally written over 400 articles about the water heating industry that you won’t see anywhere else.  If you can offer data-base expertise, hacker insight, or funding for professional help please contact me.
