Oil Fired Boilers-  What does it cost to replace one?

If it’s time to replace your oil fired boiler in New Haven or Fairfieild counties, don’t kill the messenger.   New oil-fired boilers are pretty expensive, in the $2,500-3,500 range, just for the boiler, burner & control.   When replacing 20+ year old boilers, in addition to the boiler & burner, just about every part, accessory, safety device, and electrical component also needs to be replaced with new equipment, as well as all new exhaust venting.   Prices for these additional materials ranges quite a bit depending on how large your home is.  A home with 3 or more zones can expect to see an investment of another $2 ,000-3,000 in materials, where as a 1 zone system might require half that amount.

Oil Fired Boilers-  The price breakdown

remove boiler basementWhat’s the labor cost to replace an oil boiler?   That can range quite a bit.   First we need to talk about the logistics of the job & how much effort is required removing your old boiler and getting a new one in place safely??   Is your heating system on the ground level of your property, meaning- NO stairs.    No stairs will save you a lot of money when replacing a 500-600 pound boiler.   If you have a tight narrow stair case in an old 200 year old farm house, and we need to physically break the old boiler into small pieces in order to remove the boiler-  well then you are looking at a larger investment.  If we need three extra men on the job for an entire day just to move the gear in and out of the house without damaging your home or the new boiler, that adds to the investment requirement.

What’s the price range to replace a oil boiler?   Again, the price ranges a lot on these jobs.  The material prices ranges thousands of dollars depending on the size of the boiler & manufacture.   Lets just say for a house of about 2,000 sf to replace an oil fired boiler with a new one of similar size & BTU output is roughly $6,000- 7,000 parts & labor.
