As far as I know, there is no such thing as a “Cast Iron Hybrid.” This is my own interpretation/ labeling, of all Cast Iron boilers that have efficiency ratings of over 90% AFUE and I think it’s a good assessment & name for these types of boilers. A typical cast iron boiler is almost indestructible, efficient, and provide decades of trouble free heating for your home. Standard gas fired cast iron boilers are rated around 85% efficiency AFUE, the higher end cast iron boilers fall around 87-88% efficiency. Many smaller wall-mounted “tankless boilers” boast of efficiency levels around 92-95% AFUE, however these “low mass boilers” require yearly maintenance, flushing of it’s heat exchanger, and when parts are needed they can be a real nightmare to get from the manufacture, leaving you without hot water for days. The Cast Iron Hybrid (as I like to call it) is literally the best of both worlds, it has the reliability, dependability of a cast iron boiler, with high-efficiency AFUE ratings of 91-92%- qualifying it for all federal and state rebates and incentives. A great example of a Cast Iron Hybrid Boiler is the Weil McLain GV90+
